In this instance Harper decided to ignore the strong and numerous FACT based studies conducted by those “ivory tower” experts that have continuously shown that stiffer sentences and punishments for crime do not reduce crime rates. One only has to look south of the border to see the effects that this approach has, over-crowded jail systems, billions of taxpayer dollars funneled to prisons, and no reduction in crime rates.
