57 ancient tombs unearthed in Egypt

Archeologists unearth 57 ancient tombs in Egypt - thestar.com

CAIRO—Archeologists have unearthed 57 ancient Egyptian tombs, most of
which hold an ornately painted wooden sarcophagus with a mummy inside,
Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities said Sunday.


The oldest tombs date back to around 2750 B.C. during the period of
Egypt's first and second dynasties, the council said in a statement.
Twelve of the tombs belong the 18th dynasty which ruled Egypt during the
second millennium B.C.

The 50 ft (15 meter) long Jurassic era marine reptile had a crushing 33,000 lbs (15 tonnes) per square inch bite force, the Natural History Museum of Oslo University said of the new find on the Norwegian Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

"With a skull that's more than 10 feet long you'd expect the bite to be powerful but this is off the scale," said Joern Hurum, an associate professor of vertebrate paleontology at the museum who led the international excavation in 2008.

poisonous gases on the Roman city of Dura, Eastern Syria, in the 3rd
Century AD.

The theory is based on the discovery of remains of about 20 Roman soldiers found at the base of the city wall.
