Wind Farms and Health in Canada

Komorowski’s Korner – No Adverse Health Effect from Wind Turbines – June 5, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario |
A report from Dr. Arlene King, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, states that there is not any direct causal link between wind turbine noise and adverse health effects.

An Angus Reid survey has shown that most people support renewable energy generation, including wind power. Most opposition comes from people in the locations where wind farms are to be built. I occasionally see posts about negative health effects, but they seem to be unsubstantiated claims without proof. You would think that, with all the wind farms around the world, especially in Europe and Britain, where they have had large wind farms for many years, if there were adverse health effects, then they would have come to light by now.

From what I have seen and read about the dangers of different kinds of energy production, I'll take wind power over nuclear or coal power generation any day.

Anyway, read the link at the top for more information on the health report.

Here is a list of Wind Farms in Canada.

300 wind turbines to add 500 megawatts to Ontario's power grid - maybe.

Lambton County could sprout 300 wind turbines « Wind Concerns Ontario

Hundreds of wind turbines could be built in Lambton County if all the
projects on the drawing board proceed as planned.

When the Ontario Power Authority awarded a new round of contracts to
wind generation projects in April no Lambton sites were on the list.

But a dozen proposals with generation capacity totalling nearly 500
megawatts (MW) in Lambton did make a second power authority list of
projects waiting for Hydro One to open more capacity on the grid.

New wind farm in Mexico

Mexico fires up $550 million wind farm - USATODAY.com

A $550 million wind farm project was inaugurated on Thursday in La Ventosa, Mexico, on the narrow isthmus between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean.
The new, $550 million project is in a region so breezy that the main town is named La Ventosa, or "Windy." It's on the narrow isthmus between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, where winds blow at 15 mph to 22 mph, a near-ideal rate for turbines. Gusts have been known to topple tractor trailers.

It will produce enough energy to power a city of
500,000 people, while reducing carbon monoxide emissions by 600,000
metric tons each year, according to the company.

Esteban Morras, Acciona board member, said the project could be just the start for Mexico.

Alternative energy study puts wind power on top

Good news for wind, bad for ethanol in major energy study

The results of his mathematical ranking are both rational and
unexpected. Wind power emerged as the overall victor. When teamed with
battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, it claimed the top
two spots by winning seven of the eleven categories. Photovoltaics are
an unexpected also-ran, failing to make the top five. Politically
favored ethanol stands out as the big loser of the study, falling
behind "clean coal," a technology many consider a dead end. Ouch.

Energy Myths

The 10 big energy myths | Environment | The Guardian

Wind power is financially viable today in many countries, and it will
become cheaper as turbines continue to grow in size, and manufacturers
drive down costs. Some projections see more than 30% of the world's
electricity eventually coming from the wind. Turbine manufacture and
installation are also set to become major sources of employment, with
one trade body predicting that the sector will generate 2m jobs
worldwide by 2020.
